Bungie is doing away with skill-based matchmaking for most Crucible modes as it apparently made the experience less enjoyable. Some of the cited reasons are longer queue times and potential lag. The new matchmaking is supposed to be connection-based so we should technically have fewer lag glitches where we keep shooting a Guardian and nothing happens. Similarly, this should help with hit registration but it remains to be seen how the system will work in reality. For example, the TWAB mentioned that queue times should be lower now but we didn’t experience a noticeable difference so far. The matchmaking change has been applied to all playlist except for Elimination, Survival and Survival: Freelance. These modes will continue with skill-based matchmaking due to the players fighting for Glory as opposed to Valor resets. Similarly, Trials of Osiris will continue to use card-based matchmaking so you rewards will not merely depend on whether you will be queued up with strong players who have connection similar to yours. According to the TWAB , Bungie are aiming to make Crucible more appealing to casual players as it is now supposed to be a mode “where the outcome of the match isn’t as important as enjoying the experience”.

Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris will feel familiar to Destiny 1 veterans, as will many of its rewards, but it’s got some new rules and features this time around.
To that end, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know, from what time Trials of Osiris starts to what you can earn by playing it. It works on the same clock as Xur, appearing every weekend and ending with the next weekly reset. Trials is a competitive Crucible mode that uses 3v3 Elimination rules. You need to be at least Power to participate as it is a Power-enabled activity, though Bungie says it will institute a Power cap soon.
You also need a pre-made fireteam of three since Trials does not support matchmaking in the same way the Competitive playlist does. To compete in Trials of Osiris, you need to purchase a Trials ticket. Each time you win a match, you’ll earn a stamp of sorts on your ticket. Likewise, losing will earn you a stamp. You play until you win seven matches or lose three matches, and then you receive rewards based on your performance.

I think game need for it! Every PvP mode has it, so why not this one? Your thoughts!
Destiny 2 ‘s Trials of Osiris has been pretty contentious since Bungie reintroduced the top-tier PvP game type in the Season of the Worthy. Since it launched, Trials has seen some troubles, including a big uptick in cheating and a lack of rewards for most players. Bungie has changes planned for Trials in coming seasons which will hopefully mitigate some of those issues. In a recent This Week at Bungie blog post , the developer outlined troubles it has been seeing since re-introducing Trials at the start of the Season of the Worthy last month.
Trials encourages players to try to win seven PvP matches without losing one, and dishes out rewards at three, five, and seven wins. But participating also nets you “Trials Tokens” that you can use to purchase some of that gear, which has led to some high-skill teams playing only their first few Trials matches in order to just earn tokens. Because of the way matchmaking works, that results in lower-skill teams getting repeatedly stomped on by better players.
Bungie said it’s hoping to adjust Trials to make it more rewarding regardless of your skill level, and to encourage you to play even if you aren’t likely to earn a flawless run every weekend. You should feel some value in dipping your toe in each week to see if you can get a little further than last week, to push yourself to improve and get better. While every single player won’t make it to the Lighthouse, you should feel like you can get meaningful rewards by pushing yourself and still get some rewards for spending time in the activity.
Problem: Token Rewards incentivizes players to farm to three wins and reset their card. Bonus Tokens Passage should increase these payouts, and on a flawless run it will generate a significant token payout. Solution : Create a weekly bounty that encourages participation each weekend and does not require match wins. When redeemed, the bounty will reward the same item that comes from the three-win passage unlocking the engram for purchase that week.

SBMM has become a semi-controversial topic in multiplayer games, and in Destiny specifically its knock-on consequences have included longer waits for matches and some real laggy laggers lagging up the place. Trials Of Osiris was always based on the number of wins on your ticket instead, and will remain so. Crucible matches do sometimes suffer with real laggy players from a continent away warping all over; less of that is good. And the waits could be long, no doubt.
The idea of removing skill as a factor in matchmaking is more contentious. If skill-based matchmaking is working well, every match will always be a challenge for everyone. Throwing together players of all skills does mean sometimes, yeah, great players might just dunk on the whole server.

In Trials of the Nine, two pre-made teams of four players competed to win matches. While every win granted Trials of the Nine Tokens and only a single win was needed to enter The Third Spire social space and meet The Emissary , the goal was to win seven matches with zero defeats to acquire the best possible rewards. In a departure from the Trials of Osiris, level advantages were disabled in Trials of Nine matches, ensuring a relatively even playing field apart from player skill. In addition, each player could be revived only once during a match.

But big things are happening in the Crucible, too. Bungie announced today that it’s removed skill-based matchmaking from all of the game’s PvP playlists except Elimination, Survival, and Survival: Freelance. Bungie said the change was made in response to community feedback, and should shorten queue times, improve connection quality in matches, and will also “play into the strengths of Crucible being a bombastic, frenetic action game,” where the priority is having fun rather than winning at all costs.
Trials of Osiris matchmaking will continue to be based on the number of wins on your Passages, Bungie said. We want the rest of the Crucible to be less of a high-stakes environment where players can have a more relaxed experience and just enjoy the Destiny multiplayer sandbox. The Crucible matchmaking changes are already live, and Bungie said it would keep an eye on the situation and adjust if and where necessary.
It also revealed that, just ahead of the launch of Season of Arrivals, it found a bug that enables players to equip all current Charged with Light armor mods on any Season of the Worthy armor pieces, without having previously acquired them.
