I have always believed in the power of continuing education. In terms of pure sweat equity, however, none of the letters after my name can hold a candle to my grueling PhD in Kayaker Behavioral Psychology. Kayakers are a complex and interesting species. After five years of dating and studying my unique boyfriend, Chris Gragtmans , I want to let the ladies know that there is hope.
Most of the disposable income that kayakers do make will go towards trips or gear anyway. Whether in deep river gorges with no cell service, or getting lost on gravel roads, they always manage to take longer than expected to call or show up. This is the greatest invention since two-ply toilet paper. Girlfriends who get dragged to the kayaking party, fret no more.
The rules are simple:. If kayaking is mentioned, drink. If bro-brah words are used examples include gnar, boof, stout, squirrely, portage, huck, or brown claw , drink 5 seconds. You thought your new kayaker boyfriend was tough? Just wait until this race and that illusion will disappear.

A kayak is a small, narrow watercraft which is typically propelled by means of a double-bladed paddle. The traditional kayak has a covered deck and one or more cockpits, each seating one paddler. The cockpit is sometimes covered by a spray deck that prevents the entry of water from waves or spray, differentiating the craft from a canoe. The spray deck makes it possible for suitably skilled kayakers to roll the kayak: that is, to capsize and right it without it filling with water or ejecting the paddler.
Some modern boats vary considerably from a traditional design but still claim the title “kayak”, for instance in eliminating the cockpit by seating the paddler on top of the boat “sit-on-top” kayaks ; having inflated air chambers surrounding the boat; replacing the single hull by twin hulls, and replacing paddles with other human-powered propulsion methods, such as foot-powered rotational propellers and “flippers”.
Kayaks are also being sailed, as well as propelled by means of small electric motors, and even by outboard gas engines. The kayak was first used by the indigenous Aleut , Inuit , Yupik and possibly Ainu hunters in subarctic regions of the world.

What did the Greenland kayak look like through the ages?
Not much is known about the development of the kayak’s form, structure, and materials. For the long period from the time of the settlement of northern Greenland by the Thule people till the middle of the 18th century, when the first written sources were found, we have to content ourselves with interpretations of a sparse material consisting of archeological finds.
These finds have been excavated from ruins of Eskimo homes and kitchen mittens. As the material consists of waste matter and incidental things left behind, the information obtained from them remains incidental and incomplete as well. A kayak is made of organic materials which decompose easily. As the framework and its parts are fragile, it is obvious that a 1 meter thick culture layer contains only broken and often unrecognizable fragments.
That some individual fragments have been preserved to this day can be attributed to the solidly frozen ground and the dry Greenlandic climate contributing to preservation of organic materials such as wood, skin, and whalebone. An evaluation of the few kayak remains dating from the oldest times, found in western Greenland, and their comparison with finds from northern Canada may give a vague idea of the development of the kayak’s form but indicate practically nothing about structural details such as the appearance of the skin covering.

Loved ones of an Aberdeen kayaker who went missing off the Spanish coast are to meet authorities for an update on search efforts. Kenny McPherson has not been seen since Saturday November 23, when he went paddling in his kayak in Torrevieja marina on the Costa Blanca. The year-old from Midstocket, who works as a freelance offshore survey engineer, had been seen by witnesses heading out with a new lime green kayak strapped to the top of his metallic blue Skoda Fabia, which was left at the marina.
We were unaware he was going to go out on the Saturday. Volunteers have designed posters — written in both Spanish and English — and put them up in a neighbouring coastal area. They are considering the possibility he was swept out to sea when the weather suddenly turned on the day he went out with his kayak. Mr McPherson, whose full name is Kenneth Dallas McPherson, is described as 5ft 11in tall and of medium build with a white goatee beard and short greyish hair.
